Risalatul Mu'awana intro 08/05, 1/11/09 (p2), 13/12/09, 4/6/11 (p3)

- Habib Ali HafizahuLlah said read Book of Assistance as group of individuals as hearts become firmer, it will bring bond of love and love for Allah.
Habib Umar HafizahuLLah: make sure you are never calling to an individual except RasuluLlah sallaLlahu alayhi wasallam. Don't call to people and make differentiation in the community.
- traditional islam: recognising the pious predecessor, recognising their sacrifice. Wisdom, fair exhortation - qur'an and sunnah (don't go on side issues). When someone asked Habib Ahmad RahmatuLLahi 'alayh to give a talk, he said 'khuz min bukhari' 3x
- call to the Qur'an with the method of sunna

- true 'ulama: felicity written for them. inheritor from the prophet from two ahadith.
Abud-Dardaa (radyAllaahu ‘anhu) reported: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: ‘Whoever treads a path due to which he seeks knowledge, Allaah will make him tread one of the paths towards Paradise. And the angels lower their wings out of contentment for the seeker of knowledge. And verily all those in the heavens and in the earth, even the fish in the depths of the sea ask forgiveness for the scholar. And verily, the virtue of the scholar over the worshipper is like the virtue of the moon on the night of Al-Badr over all of the stars. Indeed, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets, for the prophets do not leave behind a dinar or a dirham for inheritance, but rather, they leave behind knowledge. So whoever takes hold of it, has acquired a large share (i.e. of inheritance).’”

‘The scholars are the inheritors of the prophets?’ The prophets do not leave behind any inheritance except knowledge, and the knowledge of our Prophet r is his Sunnah. So whoever is deprived of learning it is not from the inheritors of the prophets.”

- (Qul - command to rasulilLlah salaLlahu 'alayhi wasallam, x11:108)
- taba'ni = one after the next. if we don't take it from tabi'een then we might have outward Islam.
can't pass knowledge except correct imitation of the generation before 'husni ittiba'. 'wa man tabi'ani' = chain from RasuluLlah salaLlahu 'alayhi wasallam.

Imaam Ibn Seereen (rahimahullaah) said: 'Indeed, This knowledge Is Deen, So Look To The One You Take Your Deen From

- Amma ba'du: first one who say amma ba'du is S Hasyim, the orrator of Quraisy. He'll praise Allah in Ka'bah and said amma ba'du.
S Hasyim - established himself as the leader of Quraisy, hence Arab. In the time of Jesus, leader of Arab is Adnan. S Hasyim can give speeches in pure arabic.

- faqir = pauper, poor servant. from latin; poor, english; under poor law - poor people under the parish, implies dependency
origin - radia - low, poor quality, one who lower themselves, humble, don't have enough to support dependant.
'antumul fuqara ilaLlah': being in need
'khuliqal insanu dhaifa'
Syeikh related the story of a king who is travelling in his land. He saw a man sitting under a tree after working hard. He was singing,'water and bread and shade.. this is the ultimate in blessings'. The king was troubled hearing this. The next day, he asked his servant to bring the man and the man asked him 'would you give half of your kingdom if you are thirsty?'..... everything you have is not more valuable than a glass of water and a glass of urine'.
- du'a mukhul ibadah: should be in total need eg du'a istisqa' (rain prayer)
“O Allah, make me fear You as if I see You, make me happy with my being pious to You, do not make me wretched by Your disobedience, choose for me the best of Your decrees, and bless Your fate to me so that I may not like to hasten what You have delayed, or to delay what You have hastened, and make my richness be in my soul.” Al-Mu’jam al-Awsat, vol. 6 p. 121
rewards: 'yadkhulu fuqara' before aghniya' to Jannah one day ie 500 years. Related by Imam Bukhari on the chapter of Fadhlul Fuqara', Ibnu Majah in the chapter of 'Station for destitute'. He said which means: "I saw Paradise (in laylatul isra') and I saw many residents are fuqara '(the poor) and I look to the Fire, I saw many residents are women." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

- mu'tarif = confessing. In church, once a year. Apparently from Prophet Jesus and say to the apostle - breath your confession. Confession in Islam = faqir.
That's why the dars finish with Ya Rabbana'tarafna... 'Innama yakhsyaAllahu 'ulama'
Ya Rabbi Ya 'alimal Haal, Qad kafani - admitting your state, then we can move foward.
Sayyidul istighfar (Bukhari): abu'u laka = i'tiraf, wa'taraftu zanbi

- 'afwa = wind in the desert, wipe out all traces

- sharif = linguistically: top of the mountain, someone top in the community

- jama'a = gathers together

- if someone saw something wrong in the community and not change it, I'm afraid that Allah will punish the whole community

- mau'izatul hasana = methodology, style and approach applicable to community. Hikma - AlQur'an. Mau'izoh - Hadith

- some knowledge are more relevant now eg travelling from sunset to sunrise in one day. eg when fitna come to masjid, stay in the house (fighting in the masjid, pray at home)

Ibn ‘Adi mentions a hadith that the Prophet, peace upon him, said:
Should I not inform you of the most generous of all? Allah is the most generous of all, and I am the most generous of humanity. After me the most generous person is a man who learns something beneficial and disseminates it. He will be resurrected on the Day of Ressurection as an individual nation. Likewise, is a man who gives his life in the way of Allah. (Ibn ‘Adi, al-Kamil, 1:350). A teacher will have generousity and love to their students and have smile on their face.

Allahumma alhimni rusydi,. Wa a'izni min syarri nafsi.(protection from big and small shirk)

- Imam Haddad use the word you for 1) for himself 2) to sadah 3) to us

- taubikh = threat, big deep warning, slap on the wrist.(2:44)  Ata'murunan Naasa bil birr = istifham altaubikh. do you not expecting answer. Asbabun nuzul: bani nadir, one of the in-law became muslim. The Jewish said 'yes, you are in good religion and you should be steadfast'.
Afala ta'qiloon
1) animal: aqala = put rope in the neck, take control and ride on it. According to traditional tafseer: Albagahawi etc - do you not restrain the beast?
2) do you not understand?

"A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Fire.  Then his entrails will be spilled out into the Fire (his reality will be manifested) and he will be forced to walk around and around like a donkey in a treadmill.  The people of Hell will gather around him and say, ‘O so-and-so, what is wrong with you?  Did you not enjoin us to do good and forbid us to do wrong?’  He will say, ‘I used to order you to do good, but I did not do it and I used to forbid you to do evil, but I used to do it myself.’  Then he will walk around and around like a donkey in a treadmill." Sahih Bukhari, sahih muslim

-  the scholars who knows but not act upon it is like candle...
- (asyaddu in Day of Judgement are scholars, tabrani, bayhaqi)
- Abu Darda': 'waylun liman lam ya'lamu mar'ah wa waylun liman 'alima but not act upon it 1000 times. Wayl = valley in Jahannam
-(Tustari: all people are in drunkedness except 'ulama, every 'ulama are confused except those who act on their knowledge)

- From Bidayatul Hidayah, read the text, here I point to the beginning of guidance (Qabiltu isyarah), accepting the book is the beginning of the path. Habib Umar HafizahuLlah said the beginning is bidayah and the inayah is ihya'.
3 types of students of knowledge
1) Rajulun Talibul Ilm who take knowledge as mean so that he has provision for next world and countenance of His Lord = successful. no other desire except for the next world.
2) Rajulun who seeks benefits in this world, status and wealth, and he knows this and he is in danger. Perhaps, he should fear for su'ul khatimah. If he did tawbah and start acting with what he knew, tahaquq bil faizeen because those who repent from sin are like someone who didn't have sin at all.
3) The one syaitan tricked and overwhelmed him, goes out to make living out of knowledge and he wants to be proud of it (tafakkhur) - boasting how many followers he had, wear sign of 'ulama and he speaks like 'ulama, means to gather wealth, minal halikeen, forgotten ' lima taqooloo ma la taf'aloon.'
Abu Dhar said, "I was with the Prophet (SAW) one day and I heard him saying: "There is something I fear for my Ummah than the Dajjal." It was then that I became afraid, so I said: "Oh Rasool Allah! Which thing is that?" He (SAW) said; "Misguided and astray scholars." [Musnad Ahmad (5/145) No. 21334 and 21335]
How can it be? Ulama su'  is worst as dajjal tricked people whereas scholars deceive people by his action and ahwalihi. Lisanul haal afsahu min lisanil aqwal
So be from 1) and not 3)

Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad (nafa'anaAllahu bihi fid darayn) at the end of his life, he does not want to eat meat that he will be asked. He was very thin and passed away emaciated. He had cloth just enough to cover his body.

(Abu darda: curse be the one who doesn't learn and curse 1000x to the one who learn but does not act)

ajwad = wind

a man asked Habib Abdullah for advice for his deen
Habib Attas left Yamen and student wrote to him, now that you have left us, the deen is more difficult for us. He wrote a book for them.(Salik salatil saada?). His name is AbuBakar. Communist stopped the plane trying to find Habib Attas but he went to Jeddah and died 25 years later.

Habib Muhammad AlHaddad used to study with his feet dangling on the roof top so he won't lose concentration. if he fell down, he die

syahawat: passion can be positive. 'la yu'minu ahadukum hatta hawahu in acc to what I've brought (lima ji'tu ni). Hawa - passion is positive in here. Something negative can be positive by training.
S Yusuf said 'I do not claim innocent for myself'
Some said it's the amir because they do not judge in hasten. ma rahima rabbi - ma use as man. Baghawi, ma taba lakum - malaika. The bad passion becomes angelic
getting married is from sunnah - fankihu ma taba lakum
nafs become purify by following sunnah
La uqsimu binnafsi lawwamah - high state - reproachful nafs
nafsu mutmainah - radhiya mardhiyah - peace, satisfaction, satisfied
taba': imprint, ithma - saved from evil, shown mercy
Sahl altustari - taba' creation (khalq). people are miniature of great creation as sign fil afaq wa fi anfusikum - people are the greates of creation
1) animal: eg batn wal farj
2) syaitan and laibu (wahm?) makhru alkhida
3) taba'a sakhra - magician and plotting, TV internet imprint in something pure
4) iblis - rejection and pride
solah - connected with fasting - stop from animalistic passion

malaika; nahnu nuqadisuka wa nuqadisu lak (nasiha wa insafi wa tafadul)
in egypt, a syeikh pulling donkey with him on him, lots of people stop him and say salam and tafadul
al-quds: the One is beyond any possibility of having a fault. Taqdis - recognising His Qudus
Subbuhul qudus - tasbih wa tafdil - after witir, time angle change

'if you want to defeat 70 syaitan, give sadaqah'
wa nafsi wa ma zakaha, qad aflaha man zakaha: by giving zakat.. giving from who you are to the one that Allah asks us to. Zakat 1) compulsory 2) not compulsory - smile, cooking for family.. this will overcome nafs

subuhul qudus - du'a during sujud in adzkar

Habib Ahmad asked his grandson to send a scarf to Habib Muhammad bin Alwi AlMaliki 'intifal amr'. Habib Muhamad almaliki gave everything in his bag and a book

Nafs
1) Nafs amarah bi su'
2) Nafs lawamah - blaming oneself
3) Nafs mulhama - fa alhamaha fujuraha
4) nafs mutmainah
5) nafs radhiya - Allah please
6) nafs mardhiya
7) nafs kamila - perfect soul

Basmala

no mu'min read basmala except that the land will make tasbih with him

Abu Uraida, 'before you start your wudhu, say Basmala, angle will write a lot of hasanaat until you finish your wudu'.

BAsmala is the key to Qur'an - we need the mercy of Allah for every state Ar Rahman: Only for Allah, 1 Rahmah
Ar Rahim: all in the world, 100 Rahmah, when not been asked, for repentance

Basmala have 19 letters, each letter will protect from the 19 angles guarding the Hellfire (Ibnu Kathir)

Basmala have 4 words; with these words Allah will forgive 4 types of sins: day, night, secretly and openly

Basmala protect from the look of Jinn, on the authority of Sayidina Ali (HR Tarmidzi 606)

Lawh-al Mahfooz ('preserved plate', tablet of God's decrees preserved to the end of time) and qalem (the pen which Allah has pre-recorded the actions of men) are the first things that Allah Ta'ala created. He (Jalla Jalaluh) ordered to qalem (pen) and qalem wrote everything that will happen untill the Day of Judgement. “Bismi-llahi r-rahmani r-rahim” is the first that qalem wrote on the Lawn-al Mahfooz (Preseved Plate). Allah Ta'ala rendered basmalah security for the creatures -as long as they continue to recite-. Those who are in the seven layers of the heavens also recite basmala. When basmalah was revelaed to Hadrat/Prophet Adam (a.s.), he said “My descendants are secured from punishment as long as they continue to recite basmalah.”
Afterwards, basmalah was revealed to Hadrat Ibrahim (a.s.). When Nimrod put him on the catapult, he recited basmalah, Allah Ta'ala rendered the heat of the fire cool and safe for him.
Afterwards, basmalah was revealed to Hadrat Musa (a.s.). Hadrat Musa destoreyed Pharaoh and the magicians with basmalah. Afterwards, basmalah was revealed to Hadrat Sulaiman (a.s.). Angles to him “O ye Sulaiman, today your kingdom is completed.”
When Allah Ta'ala revealed basmalah to Hadrat Sulaiman, He (JJ) commanded that “Announce to your people that whoever wants to hear Allah's ayah of safety shall come to Sulaiman.”
When all of them arrived, Hadrat Sulaiman climbed to the minbar and recited the ayah of safety: “Bismi-llahi r-rahmani r-rahim”. Everyone who heard this got relieved and said “We testify that you are the Rasul of Allah.” Anything to which Hadrat Sulaiman recites basmalah gets under the control of Sulaiman (a.s.) and Prophet Sulaiman prevailed over other nations with basmalah.
Basmalah was revealed to Hadrat Isa (Jesus) (a.s) after Hadrat Sulaiman. Hadrat Isa and his followers got relieved with basmalah.
Allah Ta'ala commanded : “O Ye Isa (Jesus) do you know which ayah is revealed to you. “Bismi-llahi r-rahmani r-rahim” is the ayah of safety, recite that a lot in your every situation; basmalah shall be at the beginning of your reading and your salah.
Whoever continues to recite it before the salah and before reading something, the angels of Munkar wa Nakir can not get him frightened, his death will be easy, his grave will not squeeze him, he reaches to the rahmah of Allah.
His grave gets nur (divine light), I (JJ) will have wake up from his grave in the day judgment with his face brightened. His balance of the good deeds in the Day of Judgment (Miizaan) will be heavier, I will complete him on the Bridge of Sirat with nour; thus he enters to the Jannah. He is called as 'You reached to saadat and magfirat (happiness and forgiveness).”
Hadrat Isa(a.s) asked “Does this only belong to me ya Rabb?”

Allah Ta'ala commanded, “It belongs to the ummah of Ahmad (alaihissalaam) after you.”

Imam Qurtubi: basmala is special to the Ummah as it stays in the AlQur'an

Chapter 5 (on Regular Devotions)

17.02.2007
- The hadith of 5 before 5. ~ rush before you die
Wird means regular eg fever that occurred at the same time every year or taking camel for drink every 4 days

29.01.2012
- a pivotal chapter
- Ba Alawi based on Syazili inwardly which focused in mujahadah and ghazali which is adab. The more we read ad’iya eg going in the bathroom, we noticed the time, the place, the zone we’re in. We learned the adab of life. Live constantly in Muraqabah, questioning our steps

- Do not waste time: use every minutes of our time for beneficial acts.
- imarah= to build, establish
- wazaif from wazifah = regular, responsible for,
- wirid = illness that come in regular basis,
qu’an ; hablul warid: jugular vein, blood from heart to brain - showing the health of our body
wurud; people who take water for hujjaj in Mina from mekkah
wirid - something consistent, take animal to the place of drinking, a plant that flowers in particular times every year.

-barakah = increase, something happen beyond the outward value of the thing
- by organising our time, we will get barakah in it

Allah created different awrad because we are created differently

increase baraka in your house by organising it, organise our home (think where is the television), open your door (house should always be prepared for guests)
Immense barakah in the time before fajar because from the hadith qudsi: Allah descends (‘adzim)

12/02/12

One whom Allah love, organise their time according to prayer time (moon and sun).
Al-Warid: comes from Allah, Imam Syazili: there’s different state of actions for diff state of (heart?).:Imam Ibnu ata’illah if u want to know what’s you r state with Allah, look at how much He bestowed upon you (Look at your state, did you wake up for tahajjud? An angle came every night to wake people. Imam Ali bin Hassan Al-Attas; Wirid is your physical action and inward action, warid is what flows in the heart of slave from meaning of subleties in the heart, and secret and as a result the heart and chest open up, and heart enlightened.

Reasons to take care of wirid:
- After we passed away, we can’t do the wirid
- to fulfill the rights of Allah, more imortant to fulfill Allah’s right than demand from Allah - act of servitude.
Syeikh abul Qasim Nisaburi (Nisabur; uzbekistan) Tasawuf is following the kitab and sunnah, and leaving desire and innovations and showing respect to teachers and finding excuses for your brothers and having reagular awrad and not having excuses in religion.

Habib Ali Al-Habsyi salawat: Allahumma sali ‘ala Muhammad bi lisanil jama’ah fi hadratil ‘adzimah...

Ratib is something in order (tartib)

Ibnu Ataillah, Allah knows that we will get bored, He coloured different act of worships, (When someone became muslim, he had this zeal and then after certain period he became fatara - the enthusiasm went off, and these are the one counted in Day of Judgement. Whoever at the period of lapse according to qur’an and sunnah is successful

Not everyone who pray established their prayers

Chapter 2 (Intention)

CHAPTER 2 (on intention) 17.02.07, 18.09.11

The intention of study (Imam Haddad) ~ tazakur wa tazakir: sometimes we can hear the same thing, but something struck for example Syeikh Talal said about salatul awwabin (those who return when people forget). Twice mentioned: solat duha and solatul awwabin (baynal isya'ain - not necessary after maghrib, maybe before isya') rewards: 12 years of solah
~dalalata 'alal khayr - dalil = indicate, sign

Intention: general, niyaat synonym with a few words
- mayl: inclination, leaning on something
- qasad: direction and intention, direct yourself (general, for eg. I want to go to Mekah, not the legal niyah when you put the ihram on)
- himmah: inspiration, something that drive you, passion, desire, eg, if I have money, I’ll spend it on charity (key word = if)
- himmah daniyah:
- azam: firm conviction, determination
- iradah: want, desire, will (think every single time what RasuluLlahi sallaLLahu 'alayhi wasallam inclined to, what he wants)
- hajiz is concern, something enters the heart (habib ahmad b zayn al-habsyi - hajiz huwa asal, origin, beginning of inetntion) the seeds that were thrown in heart which grow

- an-niyah ruhul ‘amal kal ruh lil jasad. like the rain to the earth

- measure of intention: depends on the aspiration whether it’s high or low. The hadith innamal a’mal... the measure of any intention whether it’s good or bad is by checking whether it is towards the next world or this world. Even when people exercise, outwardly it is the same but the intention is what make the act gets rewards.
- Ibnu Hajar said boxing is haram because the purpose is to hit people's face. He forbids watching and involving oneself in boxing.

- islah: virtuous, correct, to repair

- ikhlas: make it pure, directed towards

- ‘ innama a’mal..’ Imam Syafi’e: ⅓ of deen. (1/3 is intention, ⅓ is vocal and ⅓ physical action). Imam Ahmad bin Hambal: knowledge is based on 3 hadith
Abu Dawood read 500,000 hadith and collected 4800 hadith for his Sunan, he can compiled it to 4 hadith.
Innama: lil hasyr = only limited to; nothing else important
another narration, didn’t have innama

- wherever your journey to Allah is, you will find Him

- will an act be counted if it has no intention; it can be laghwi, waste or play. However, the time will be take into account.
- If one pray asar with the intention of Asar, but he said Zohor, it is valid because the intention is what is in the heart.
- If you become lazy in your ibadah, think of the reward: this will take you forward
- If your eyes started wandering and looking at haraam thing: have fear of Allah.

- Hadith: intention of a believer is better than his action (niyatul mu'min khayrun min 'amalihi). Someone asked about sadaqah jariyah. He knew of a well that muslim pass by. He indicated for people to buy. A muslim went to buy it but a jewish person has already bought it and sold the water to people. He came back to tell RasuliLlah salaLlahu 'alayhi wasallam and he said the above hadith.

- Syeikh Ali Bin Abu Bakr As-Sakran before going out of his house, always write down all his intentions.

- According to Syhrul ‘ainiyah, Habib Ahmad bin Zain Al-habsyi.. and of the good intention, have many of them, be sincere and beware be vigilant and have fear

- Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar wrote a letter to S. Umar bin Abdul Aziz saying ‘the assistance of Allah to slave depends on his intention. Whoever perfects his intention, Allah perfects His assistance to him.’ (Allah fi 'auni abdi ma tamat niyatahu). - He is the son of AbdulLah ibnu Umar, who's when he's 11 years old knew the answer for RasuliLlah salaLlahu 'alayhi wasallam's question: Once Allah's Apostle said, "Amongst the trees there is a tree, the leaves of which do not fall and is like a Muslim, tell me the name of that tree." Everybody started thinking about the trees of the desert areas and I thought of the date-palm tree but felt shy (to answer). The others asked, "O Allah's Apostle! inform us of it." He replied, "it is the date-palm tree." I told my father what had come to my mind and on that he said, "Had you said it I would have preferred it to such and such a thing that I might possess." (Sahih Bukhari)

- The sunnah is when we are travelling to somewhere important, he will take the shortest route and the quickest mean.
- The intention can be measured to our response on a situation eg. if someone make us angry on the road and we swear - it becomes fasida (spoiled, corrupt, not true intention)
saliha (pure intention) is when we smile and not angry even we are facing difficult situation. When he salaLlahu 'alayhi wasallam been treated badly, zadahu bil hilmi

- Imam Haddad: all the foundation is in the first paragraph like Riyadatul Saliheen - easier to understand. For eg zakat in Sahih Bukhari on camel and gold but not gold. In Riyadul saliheen, zakat is on one hadith on camel..

Ratabahu = applied to Him, assigned

intro (page 3)

- Mu'awana is mutual assistance

- Birr acc to Ibnu Hajar - all good actions; one of the name of Jannah
Rasulullah saw: ‘alaikum bi al-shidqi fa inna al-shidqa yahdi ila al-birri, wa al-birru yahdi ila al-jannati (HR Bukhari) - truthfulness guides to good action and good action guide to Jannah

- Ta'awanu from the word tafa'alu - doing things mutually
If we want Allah to help us, we have to help others.

- Acc to Abdullah Al Fadak - Faedah is benefit from little words that have intense meaning eg mann (quite) najah (succeed)

- Nafa'a: when RasuluLlah sallallahi 'alayhi wasallam drinks zamzam water, he made the du'a Allahumma innii as aluka 'ilman naafi'an wa qalbin khasyi'an (heart full of love , fear and awe of You) wa amalan solehan

- Fath: pouring down of knowledge, Imam Abu Hanifa said that the time that he's sharpest on the deen was when he drank Zamzam on a regular basis.

- hold fast to the Book of Allah and His Messenger Sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi wasallam and calling towards guidance (du'a)
dalil: spesific indication, taking the right path. Habib Umar bin Semaith pointed to a book with his four fingers and palm. Syeikh Muhammad ba Syu'aib always pointed with his palm. After a few years, he found out that Rasulullah Sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam pointed with his palm. Dalil = show

- Basmala - bi balin The hadith Every important task that is not started with basmala becomes fruitless. (Fayzul-Qadir, V, 13.)
Law anzalna hatha alqur-ana AAala jabalin laraaytahu khashiAAan mutasaddiAAan min khashyati Allahi watilka al-amthalu nadribuha lilnnasi laAAallahum yatafakkaroonIf We (had) sent down this Quran on a mountain, surely you (would) have seen it humbled, breaking asunder from (the) fear (of) Allah. And these (are) the examples, We present them to the people so that they may give thought.
Acc to tafsir sayuti this is the verse basmala

- Rabbi Yassir wa a'in Ya Karim: to understand the direction of the book
Rabbi = my Lord, tarbiyah = to provide, Allah = the Owner of all of us; Murabbi = the one who makes us grow ( a gardener who plants the seeds, at the right month, right position and support)
different with Allahuma, it means all the asmaul husna

Yassir = related to we want to travel in a path that's made easy
Fa a man a' to wattaqo Wassodaqo bil husna Fasanuyasiruhu lil yusro (surah al-layl)

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ (Surah Al-Qamar)- easy for the people above

Yuridullahu bikumul yusra wala yuridu bikumul 'usr (AlBaqarah)

Sayidina Musa when he went to call Fir'aun, he used the word Rabb: Rabbi isyrah lii shadrii, wayassir lii amrii (20:25)
Rabb: truthful connection
Allahumma sahil alayya ma amartani

- Sayidina Alqama came from Iraq travelled to Syam to meet Abu Dawood in Umayyad Mosque to seek one hadith, he sat there and make du'a Allahuma yassir li jalisin soliheen (ease for me good company)
'min man anta?' (from where you came from?)
'min ahlil kuffah'
' Don't you have Abdullah ibnu Mas'ud who used to keep Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam shoes and his bowl for wudhu'

wa a'een: related to 'aun

kareem: lots of different translation, following qualities:
1. forgive even in the state of power
2. no limit in the amount of generousity (give more than what the other deserves)
3. annoyed when not being asked
Allah did not destroy us despite our sins and give us more that what we deserve, and if we turn to someone else and not to Him
Karim: linguistically Karam: the best, special type of wine (from the best grapes - grapes: the heavier grapes the more it will bow down)
Put your hands out and He will give
A narration from Abu Huraira 'Innal karam alqlbul mukmin' we should adopt the quality in us

Fath: Inna fatahna laka fathan mubina
the jews settled in Madina when Rasululullah sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam opened Mekah - conquest of Khaybar, related to success and opening
In biography of scholars, we can read when they have fath for eg Imam Nawawi, he's not interested in playing since small but it was time when he's ill that he received most knowledge
Habib Abdul Rahman Kittany said one year in Comoros Island is better than 70 years of study.

Al-'alim: our knowledge is derived from something eg Cairo is the capital of Egypt, we get the knowledge from somewhere.
Allah's knowledge didn't come from anywhere and it is limitless. He can pour the knowledge without restrictions. Wa 'alama Adama kulluha - and as a result Sayidina Adam taught the malaika.

On following the Book and Sunnah

Book of Assistance - on following the Book and Sunnah (Chapter 10)

-‘alayka: for himself as well

- tamasuk = hold fast to something, sticking
amsaka ‘anil kalam - silence, amsaka (hold back) ~ don’t talk and hold on the Book.
imsak - Ramadhan, hold back from what Allah told us to do ~ la’alakum tattaqoon, taqwa = hold back from what Allah does not want you to do and to do what He commanded. If we have tamasuk, we have imsak.
Imsak in marriage means protection and looking after.

- Sunna means path, procedure, routine, custom. (Man Ahya sunnatal hassanatan) "Whosoever does a good Sunnah he will get the reward for it and the reward from other people doing the same thing until the Day of Judgment. And whosoever does a bad Sunnah he will have the punishment from doing it and the punishment of others who practice it" [Muslim]
As-sunna means The Sunnah

- i’tisam, tamassuk = cling, hafaza, majmu’ ilayh = protect. It means we have to pit Qur’an in high place, protective cover, memorise it and more importantly to appreciate how important the Book is and have a strong relationship with The Book.
I’tisam in modern Arabic means siiting down strike.

- Qawwim = stood the test of time, durable, enduring
mustaqim = straight path following The Book and Sunnah

- Salaam means peace

- Ghanama means wealthy, from booty in war.

- Halaka means perish, grieve

- Rasul Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa alihi wassalam said "I have left upon you a shining path, its night is like its day, no one deviates from it except one who is destroyed, and whoever lives long from amongst you will see great controversy. [Ahmad (4/126), Ibn Maajah (no. 43), al-Haakim (1/96) and others - Hasan]

- Rasul Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa alihi wassalam said to Sayidatina Fatima RadhiyaAllahu ‘anha that after tomorrow your father will not feel pain anymore. Upon hearing that, Sayidatina Fatimah RadhiyaAllahu ‘anha cried and Rasul Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa alihi wasallam said do not cry as you will be the first one to meet me.

- According to Ibnu Qaisar: ulul ‘amri is those people who have intelligence and control over the affair of the people.

Intro

Risalatul Mu’awanah

'Umar b. al-Khattab RadhiyaAllahu 'anh narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi wassalam said: Deeds are [a result] only of the intentions [of the actor], and an individual is [rewarded] only according to that which he intends. Therefore, whosoever has emigrated for the sake of Allah and His messenger, then his emigration was for Allah and His messenger. Whosoever emigrated for the sake of worldly gain, or a woman [whom he desires] to marry, then his emigration is for the sake of that which [moved him] to emigrate." Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim.
In the above hadith Rasul Sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi wassallam mentions spesifically about marriage as we learned in another hadith: "This world is just passing by, and the best comfort in this world is a righteous women.

Imam Al-Haddad (Rahmatullahu 'alayh always reminded his students about intentions. He always asked his students to repeat the intentions after him Rahmatullahu 'alayh (the intentions is as above).
Faida = benefit, utility (dictionary). When we learn and take the small thing in it and benefit.

Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad Rahmatullahi 'alayh is blind. His father brought him to a big scholar at that time, Habib Umar bin Abdul Rahman Al-Attas (who is also blind) to ask for du'a for his child. Habib Umar Rahmatullahi 'alayh responded by saying if you want, I can make du'a that his eyesight returns but I can make du'a that he will have basirah (innersight) that the whole world will be under his feet.

Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad Rahmatullahi 'alayh had a very strong memory. He used to walk with a friend to places and by the time they reach the place, he already memorised the whole lesson that his friend read.

He Rahmatullahu 'alayh used to pray 100 to 200 cycles of prayers after Dhuha prayer. He was related strongly to worship as worship is the main purpose of our lives.

Ba Alawi is always described as outwardly Ghazali and inwardly Syadhili. The book was written with both outward and inward advices. For example, in Haj by doing outward actions we will get inward reality of the worship. The syadhili way is Riyada of removing lower self.

Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad Rahmatullahi 'alayh studied grammar under Bajubayr Al-Faqih Rahmatullahi 'Alayh. After studying extensively at a very young age, at 17-18 years old he had the desire to cut himself from people. He has no desire for status and for the world. He used to lock himself in Al-Hajra and people came to him and begged for him to teach. At 18 years old, he started interacting with people with kindness and gentleness. He was compassionate, never harsh and applied his knowledge with wisdom. He rahmatullahi 'alayh went for da'wa in remote places where nobody came to visit. Once, he Rahmatullahi 'alayh went to a small village (around 15 houses) and someone asked him how many people should gather together for Friday prayer. His answer was 13 as there are some opinion that allows lesser number of congregation for friday prayer (Syafi'e 40).

On the year 1069 (25 years old) he Rahmatullahi 'alayh wrote Risalatul Mu'awana.

He was well-known around the world that Syeikh Bajubayr who went to study in India heard about him, came back and studied under him. ~ ud'oo man da'ani (I teach the one who teaches me)

At the age of 63 (63 is important as Rasul sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi wassalam, Sayidina Abu Bakar and Sayidina Umar RadhiyaAllahu 'anhum passed away at this age), he wrote Ad-Da'watu Tammah (the complete call, on giving advice to different group of people)

Habib Abdullah AL-Haddad is well=known for his ratib, people read ratib but do not have any idea who he is.When the area were attacked by Zaidiyah, ratib protected the people.

The title of the book is Risalatul Mu'awana wa Muzdhara wa muwazara
Muzdhara = to make inner manifest in our lives, Dhahara = victorious, succeed (Al-Mumtahina)
Muwazara = connect us with those that can help us with our burdens

Al-Habib Rahmatullahu 'alayh begin with Basmala as Rasul Sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi wassalam placed importance on Basmala. He Sallallahu 'alayhi wa alihi wassalam even thought us on how to write Basmala (extend the Ba' in writing and make the Sin sharper).

If you’re stuck in a quicksand (physically / spiritually) read BismilLahir Rahmanir Rahim Wa la hawla wa la quwata illa bilLahi ‘aliyil ‘adzim. Rabbi Yassir wa a’in Ya Kareem.

BismilLah consist of 19 letters – and Jahannam have 19 guards, each letter protect from each guards

RasuluLLah sallaLlahu 'alayhi wasallam always said istighfar as he's in constant state of talaqi (going up), as the wali.
Habib Abdullah bin Hussin bin Tahir RahmatuLlahi 'alayh said, ' we have no action'. He read at the beginning of the path 10,000 tahlil and Hu. He recognised that all actions that he does is what Allah bestowed. We should focus on Allah's blessings and focus on bad things that we should improve.

Nafs:
- Nafs amarah bil su'
- Nafs lawwama (blaming)
- Nafsu fajir/ taqi (fa alhamaha fujuraha wa taqwaha 91:8, mulhama = formed into being)
- Nafus mutmainah (settled and at peace, tama'nina: at peace)
- Nafsu radhiya mardhiya (pleased, not just at peace)
- Nafsu kamilah (perfection): anbiya' and siddiqinul kubra, kumul: lots of men and less women.

hadith: A`da `aduwwuka nafsuka al-lati bayna janibayk [Your worst enemy is your nafs which lies between your flanks.

“I fear for my Ummah a hidden shirk and that shirk is Riyaa – Pride, Hypocrisy. Beware of this Shirk Khafiya – Hidden Shirk, as it is like a black ant walking on a black rock on a dark moonless night.” – Rasulullah (SalAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam)
When the Prophet (salAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said this to his companions, each and every one of them became worried about their internal state. They asked Rasulullah (salAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) that if this was truly the case, how could any of them be safe from hidden shirk – Riyaa? The Messenger of Allah shared with them this very important du’a:

اللّهُـمَّ إِنّـي أَعـوذُبِكَ أَنْ أُشْـرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنا أَعْـلَمْ، وَأَسْتَـغْفِرُكَ لِما لا أَعْـلَم
Allahumma innee a’oothu bika an ushrika bika wa-ana ‘alam, wa-astaghfiruka lima la ‘alam.

O Allah, I take refuge in You lest I should commit shirk (associate partners) with You knowingly and I seek Your forgiveness for what I do unknowingly.
Habib Abdullah Al-Haddad (Nafa'anaLlahu bihi fid darayn) intention is for the people to hold strong to Islam.

Tafakkur (contemplation) ch 9

Fikr are of two categories:
1) Arifeen
2) Am for the awwam for example Allah is One, whoever created the mountain can't be two.

The most noble of contemplation is reflecting of the creation that Allah created

Aayat means signs, usually verses from Al Qur'an (Said Mursi said the whole creation (world) is the explanation of Qur'an and Al Qur'an is the explanation of the world
Amongst the ayatuLlah are men who just being with them reminds you of Allah

Istihya' means holding back from doing something because you are scared of upsetting somebody

Dunya are things in it that so quickly dissapears

On Reliance on God

Chapter 31 The Book of Assistance, On Reliance On God(Tawakkal)

BismilLah

-Syeikh began by asking us to think what are the connections between sabr, syukur zuhud and tawakkal.
- Stations (maqaam) have three elements in it: ‘ilm, ‘amal and haal (knowledge, state and action).
- Imam Ghazali said tawakkal is manzilu min manaazilu deen (Manzil being a place to rest or relax, a station, home) wa maqaam min maqamat muqeenun (those with certainty, syukur and tawakkal have the same origin but with different maqam and Imam Bukhari and Imam Haddad put syukur before tawakkal in their books) bal huwa min ma’ali (higher) darajat muqtaribeena (those who seek to come close) wa ufi nafsi ghamidoon min haythu ‘ilm wa syaqul ‘amal– it is ghamid: difficult to comprehend in knowledge and difficult in action.
- Imam Malik was the first muhaddith to organise his book in chapters. He collected ahadith and prayed istikhara before placing the hadith in which chapter.
- In Ihya’ of Imam Ghazali, he placed tawakkal in book 5 (last quarter: munjiyaat) chapter 4 and named it Kitab tawhid and tawakkal.
- The first section in Al-Hikam is fiqh al-asbab ie the mean.

- Tawakkal came from the root word wakala. It means handing over responsibility and depending on their judgement. Wakala is translated as an agent in english.
- According to Imam Ghazali the reality of a mutawakkil connected to his heart. It is like I’timadul haj ie handing over stone to someone in haj.
- Four qualities to have tawakkal on someone:
- muntahal hidaya (upmost guidance) – the one who guide
- have the power
- fisaha (eloquence) with action
- syafaqa (compassion, affable)
- There is a hadith quoted by many muhaddith amongst them Ibnu Majah and Ibnu Hambal who put it in the chapter of Zuhud:
"If only you relied on Allah a true reliance, He would provide sustenance for you just as He does the birds: They fly out in the morning empty and return in the afternoon with full stomachs."
Birds have tawakkal in Allah but they still went out in the morning. According to Ibnu Hajar tawakkal is not leaving the asbab and action. A man said that he did not leave the masjid because his rizq is from Allah. Ahmad Ibnu Hambal said that this man did not have knowledge.

They said: "O Messenger of Allah! We know about the Thartharun (talk a lot), and the Mutashaddiqun (boast a lot, boss people), but what about the Muthafaihiqun?"' He said:"The arrogant (showing off)."

Muhammad ibnu Habib: what is a wali? when he is in shade, he does not want to be in sun, when he is in sun, he does not want to be in shade.'

doa when being praised..... sharing

Bismillah
Assalamu alaykum

I have just finished an online class with Shaykh A Aziz on Book of asssistance chapter 25
If I have been wrong to praise or have beause of my praise caused ujub and kibr (pride and ostentitiousness), pls forgive me

The doa to read when being praised as read by Sahabat Kabir Abu Bakar AsSiddiq Radhi Allahu Anhu(insya Allah getting the arabic version soon )

The translation:
Oh Allah , You are more knowledgable about me than myself and I am more knowledgable about myself than them. Oh Allah do not call me into account of what they say and forgive me for what they do not know and make me better than what they think

There is a hadith stating that Jibrail alaihi salam taught Rasulullah Salllahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam a doa that has never been taught before. Insya Allah will update once we get them.
When being priased, dislike in your heart... that is adab to avoid ujub and kibr

Praise is only praiseworthy when
1. Sincere by the one praising and the one receiving the praise
2. Intention of the praise
3. May result into better action

Has to be with adab of
1. the way and time
2. with yourself when praising (and the person being praised)
3. with your Creator

Hadith narrated by Miqdad Radhi Allahu anhu
"We were ordered by Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam to throw sand in the face of the those who praise."
Not literal
e.g. shaykh may praise mureed which will result in better attendance at gathering

Also this in relation of taqwa of the one beng praised too
e.g. Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam did not throw sand on Hasan bin Thabit radhi allahu anhu when he read poems praising Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam
nor did anyone throw sand to Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam when he praised them e.g. when Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam said to sayyidina abu Bakar Radhi Allahu anhu ......."you are not form the people of kibr" (Hadith prohibiting long izar when sayyidina Abu Bakar said " I am thin" meaning his izar will fall long as he was thin. The Prophet Sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa salam said the above mentioned)

Sayyidina Umar AlKhattab
"Be weary of false praise for praise is slaughter"

SUMMARY
PRAISE IS ALLOWED WHEN

1. THE ONE PRAISED WILL TAKE BENEFIT FROM IT

2.THERE IS A SUPERIOR MAN WHOSE SUPERIORITY IS NOT KNOWN AND U WISH TO MAKE IT KNOWN
E.G. shaykh AAA praised Shaykh Furber from Cairo with the intention if anyone goes to Cairo should seek him and benefit from him who has deep knowledge in fiqh and hadith as he is not well known

Chapter 24 (On kindness and charity)

Revision: Hadith Jibril in relation to all the hadith is like fatiha to the whole qur’an.
All the deen can be traced to Hadith Jibril.
1st stage of the deen: is just physically doing whether one understand or not. Like a small child just following her mother praying. This will make him a muslim even if he’s a munafiq. (Munafiq is a muslim and have all the rights of muslim).
2nd stage of the deen: iman. You can’t see but it is in the heart. Tasting the reality from experience or practice. People came to RasululLah SAW and said they can’t give up 1) woman in which Rasulullah said ‘aslim’ 2) wine in which RasululLah SAW said ‘aslim’ 3) do not want to pray in which RasululLah SAW said he do not want them. “Inna salata tanha ‘anil fahsyai wal munkar” ~ practice Islam and you’ll see.
3rd stage of the deen: ihsan (Chapter 24)

- [alaika] = to nafs: himself and listener

- love = arabic; recognition of beauty (jamal): jamal might be in poem or songs, physical appearance, character etc.
= inclination of heart
= attraction towards fadhl (graciousness).
Beauty can be defined by
- nafs
- environment eg bolywood
- Allah: we ‘re required to love for beauty as defined by Allah.

[Afdhalu a’mal]
Fadhl: 1) Allah give without reason and Allah make it the best eg, afdhalu makan (the best place) is makkah, the best of day; Yaumul Arafah (from hadith and the day when syaitan is smallest)
2) fadhl earned (asbabul rahmat) ie people facilitate

‘Lau ‘abadta baina sama’i wal ard wa la hubbu fiha wa la bughda fiha – Allah will not accept it’

Three things that will lead to sweatness of iman
1) loving Allah and His Messenger more than anything else ‘In kuntum tuhibbunaLlah fat tabi’uni yuhbibkumulLah and Allah will love you.
2) Loving a person only because of Allah’s sake (other level ie LilLah)
a) ‘Allah will say in the Day of Judgement where are the people who love each other for My sake?’
b) Included in the people under the shade on the day that have no shade (al-yawma zilluhum yawma la zillin illa zilli). The seven people under the shade: just ruler, 2 people who gather together and seperated because of Allah, a man whose his heart connected to the masjid, young person who grew up in worship, a person who was invited by a beautiful woman with status and said ‘inni akhafulLah’, one who give sadaqah with right hand and the left hand did not know about it and a person who remembers Allah and his eyes filled up with tears.
~ all these people get reward because they’re doing something solely for Allah.
c) A man goes to visit other people from other town, so Allah send an angle watching him and he appears to him asking ‘ayna turid (where are you going)?’ ‘I came to see a brother in this town.’ ‘What benefit will you get from him?’ ‘No reason. I just love him.’ ‘I’m a messenger send to tell you that Allah love you like you love him.’
‘wajabat mahabbati ‘ala ~ It is necessary that My love to those who love for My sake, visit each other for My sake, sit together for My sake and spend on others for My sake.
3) He hate to back in kufr as he hate to be thrown into Fire

We have to think what reasons we had this company..

Visiting for Allah’s sake:
1) not doing something contradict the syari’ah
2) not extend beyond time

‘Al-wihda akhyar min jalasa su’ wal jalisa soleh akhyar min wihda’ (being alone is better than sitting with bad company, and sitting with good company is better than being alone). Malik Ibnu Dinar used to sit with dogs at rubbish dung and some scholars asked him why and he answered with the hadith.

Love for Allah’s sake has 4 levels:
1) Lillah = just because of Allah eg you have a bad neighbour, but you just love him lilLah.
2) FilLah = have emotion attached to it and with iman, because this can brings you to Jannah
3) BilLah = by Allah and through Allah. Allah’s love through me and I’m just His vehicle.
4) MinaLlah = Allah pours to us.

Do’a RasululLah SAW which he attributed to Nabi Daud AS ‘Allahummar zuqni hubbak, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba kulli ‘amalin yuqarribuni ilaik, waj’al hubbaka ahabbal ashya’I illayya, waj’al nafsaka ahabbu illayya minal ma’il barid.’ Nabid Daud AS is a’badal basyr ie the most in his worship but he still make this du’a. RasuluLLah sallaLlahu alayhi wa alihi wassalam wants the love of people for Allah’s sake.. then how great is this love?

25.02.07

- How do we relate to people? Syeikh asked us to list 2 occasions of the past 3 days where we sat with someone and you rank it 1-10 in uplifting you.
- Syeikh asked us to define companion and friends.
- Origin of companionship is through pure love and sincerity love (mawaddah and mahabbah). When it happens, it happens because of Allah.
- Neighbours even non-muslim should be your company, so that they will love you and if you don’t make them your company, you’ll never have an impact on society.
- All your relationships should be based upon these hadith:
1) ‘Al-rijaal ‘ala diiini khalilihi, fal yandzour man khalilaluhu’ A person is upon the Deen of his khaleel - confidant, so each of you should look to whom you take as his confidant.’ (Abu Dawood and At-Tirmidhee)
- Sayidina Ibrahim Alayhi Al-Salaam is called KhaliluLlah because at that time there’s no other people who believe in Allah.
2) ‘The likeness of a righteous friend and an evil friend is the likeness of a (musk) perfume seller and a person who stoke fire for blacksmith. As for the perfume seller, either he will give it to you, or you will buy from him, or you may benefit from his sweet smell. And as for the blacksmith, either your clothes will be burnt, or you will get stink." [Bukhari and Muslim]
-perfume seller is usually poor but they always have large heart and give you something.
-the smell: perfume attracts people and stink repel people
- the hadith represent jannah and naar.
-there’s no taste in this dunya except suhbatal fuqara’
-If you sit with wali (the one that Allah has chosen) you’ll feel ‘this must be the jannah was all about’. A Sahabi cried and said he didn’t want to go to jannah because he was not sure in jannah wether he’ll be with RasululLah SallaLlahu alayhi wa alihi wassalam. RasululLah SallaLlahu alayhi wa alihi wassalam replied that ‘al-mar’u ma’a man ahibba’uh’ (A man is with whom he loves). Sayidinna Anas RadiyaAllahu ‘anh said that is amongst the happiest time of his life.
3) ‘Al-wihda akhyar min jalasa su’ wal jalisa soleh akhyar min wihda’ (being alone is better than sitting with bad company, and sitting with good company is better than being alone)
- Imam Abdullah al-idrus asked his son Syed Abu Bakar (RahmatulLahu alayhim) to bring someone that is lower than him in religion to the dars. Syed Abu Bakar at that time was already an ‘alim and hafiz. So, he went to Tarim market to find someone. He saw a drunken man but then he thought “what if this man make tawbah, and his tawbah was accepted.. he’s better than me.” Then he saw some dogs, but he thought “this dog if it died, it goes to the ground. I have to stand up and I might fail.” Having failed the task, he went back and sat outside and cried. When his father came, he explained to him and his father said “you’ve learnt your first lesson. Not to raise yourself above anyone.”

Sahih Bukhari have lots of chapters and every chapters have it own sirr. Ibnu Khuyil Al-Lakhnawi RahimahuLlah just make comments on the chapter headings although he’s a great muhaddith himself. Imam Bukhari RahmarulLahu ‘alaih named one of the chapter: ‘ a chapter on cutting himself give peaceness of heart than bad company.’

(From Nasa’ih Imam Haddad RahmatulLahu ‘alayh)
There are a few reasons that one love a company:
1) whenever somebody loves a saliheen and keep his company. This is the love for Allah.
2) If he love that person is not saliheen but help you in your deen. This is love from Allah
3) If he love a person because this person helps in his worldly affair that helps his ahirat’s affair, this is included as love for Allah.
4) Purely duniawi – mubah.
5) He helps you do zulm / wrong and mischief, this love is ugly and it is blameworthy. This will lead to animosity as stated in Az-Zukhruf 67 “Friends on that Day will be foes one to another except the Al Muttaqoon".

Syeikh quoted a hadith on friends who died and said ‘Oh my Lord! So and so have left me and he used to… remind me and please Allah don’t leave him behind, guide him as he guided me.. Allah will combine them. ‘What a blessed brother you are.’ When a kafir died they said ‘O Allah! He’s the one who.. bis’al akh wa bi’sa khalil…’ Scholar said this hadith refer to Ubayy ibnu khalaf and Khutbah ibnu Abi Muis (who spit on RasululLah SallaLlahu alayhi wa alihi wassalam’s face).
